228 this AM.  Sigh.  Such a great day of eating and exercise yesterday.  Didn't snack at all last night!  :)

Today's Plan:
AM:  Coffee/LF yogurt w/ tablespoon granola
Snack:  Almonds/apple
Lunch:  LEFTOVERS!!  Yummo!
Snack:  Celery/Carrots w/ hummus (gotta finish it up)
Dinner:  Big Fat Omelets w/ bacon bits/cheese/peppers/onions/mushrooms & toasted whole-grain Artisan bread
Snack:  SF fudgesicle or popcorn

Exercise:  Cardio @ the gym this afternoon/or ??
Goal for the Day:  Um.....carry on??

Okay, gotta hop off here & bring Becca to school for her Rising Aspirations program meeting, then to work for me.  Appointment with an Oral Surgeon this afternoon.  SIGH.  It never ends.  :(  Anyway, ttyl~

A link:  This is totally unrelated to dieting and I haven't visited this site in a couple years, but I've never forgotten how much I enjoyed it!  Anyone who loves "house & home" will love this!  Enjoy!  :D  http://theeverydaydecorator.tripod.com/cottage.html

Daily Dose 8 (and again!)

9:04PM  Wednesday

Just wanna add a few things to todays post; first of all, I got my first Follower!!!  YAY!!  Thanks, Michelle!  :)  I'm really looking forward to hearing from folks as they read, and leave comments.  It's one of the coolest things about Facebook; reading the daily newsfeed to keep tabs on what's happening in the lives of my family & friends who don't live near me!  I love seeing their pictures, but also having "mini-conversations" by way of a trail of comments!  Speaking of Facebook, I considered posting my blog link on my Profile page, but am not quite ready for broadcasting my diet-efforts that publicly!  I'm happy to share the link and hope you do too~

Secondly, I went to another Zumba class at 6:30 this evening.  A different instructor, different music, different style (actually seemed a little more basic, thankfully) and again, I looked and felt quite ridiculous trying to make this bulky, slow-moving, rhythm-less body follow the steps and moves, but at this point, I really don't care what I look like!  Hopefully I'll "get it" some day and in the meantime, my body's moving & sweating and that's all good!  :D  Met a nice lady who encouraged me to try out the Body Pump class and a Body Step class.  I'll try to go to at least one of everything to see which I like the best.

On another note: met w/ the gastroenterologist (sp?) today & it's his recommendation that I do have the surgery, as there's definitely something in my gall bladder, my liver something-or-others are elevated and I experienced that horrific pain.  Better to do it sooner rather than later, he said.  SIGH.  So, guess I'll be scheduling that tomorrow.  Very interesting that Kelly from http://anewmejourney.blogspot.com/ just had gallbladder surgery and posted extensively about it, and included a link to http://gallbladderattack.com/index.shtml an informative site that I'll be reading up on!

me & my girls in June

Well, it's time to say goodnight and head upstairs to my bed and my book!  Thanks for reading my rambles!  :)  See you in the morning!

Daily Dose 8 (continued)

Me again.  It's 1:05pm and I'm home until an appointment with a surgeon at 2:30.  WHAT??  It all began a couple weeks ago when I ended up in an ambulance, rushing to the ER because of extreme, bizarre pain in my upper abdomen!  The freakiest, scariest pain and experience I've ever had!  :(  Turns out I have gall stones (or the beginnings of them) and will probably have my gall bladder removed!!!!  :{  Yikes!!!

The pain came on so suddenly, left me breathless and frightened but was gone by the time we got to the hospital!  I haven't experienced it again, thankfully. Today I'll find out exactly what's up and the details of surgery.  I really DONT want this because of the cost plus not being able to work. I do have insurance but can't even imagine how much an ambulance ride, ER, CAT scan and ultrasound will cost, to say nothing of surgery and a hospital stay....  :(  Well, anyway, guess I'll just wait and see what the Dr. says and leave it in the Lord's hands.

Left my AM client and hit the gym for 45 minutes, before coming home & eating my delicious leftover stir fry!  I'm trying to decide if I wanna try out another Zumba class this evening.  I really should!  We'll see... gonna hop off here now, but will leave you with another link!  Enjoy!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxhyK64MhZU&feature=related

Daily Dose 8

Woo Hoo!!  228 this morning!  :)

Yesterdays plan paid off; I made a delicious chicken stir fry for dinner instead of the salad thing, didn't make rice, and ate pretty early~ about 4:30ish, I think.  I've been reading a lot lately; pretty soon I'll have read through all the books I bought at the 4th of July booksale in Williston.  But I'd rather be reading than watching TV or even aimlessly wandering around on the net~ so after my early dinner, I went back upstairs to read for a couple hours, then met Erin at the gym where I did 20 minutes on the elliptical and 20 on the bike (reading!).  Had to leave to go pick up Becca & Chelsea from VYOC practice at 9pm.

It was great to come home, know that my book was waiting and not be tempted to eat last night!  Eating at night really impacts my morning weight, yet such an ingrained habit is hard to break.

Todays plan:
AM:  Coffee/2 pc. Thin Bread w/ p.b and low-sugar peach jam (a breakfast favorite!)
Snack:  Handful natural almonds/Chrystal Light
Lunch:  Leftover stir-fry/SF fudgesicle or bowl of frozen fruit
Snack:  Apple Slices w/ peanut butter or popcorn
Dinner:  Grilled Chicken Sausage/grilled veggies/brown rice/SF fudgesicle
Snack:  ??

Exercise:  Zumba or Cardio/Weights at the gym
Goal for the Day:  Drink at least 2 liters water

In NY this summer

Another fun link:  http://www.missphit.com/  I'm so glad that there's great clothing out there for plus sized women!  No need to look fat n' frumpy, even if we feel like that!  Enjoy the website and I'll ttyl!  :)

Daily Dose 7

Good morning, friends!

Scales this morning said 230 pounds.  Still.  Ok.  No problem.  Last night I did eat two celery sticks, one with hummus which I LOVE, and one with natural peanut butter which I LOVE!  :D  So, that satisfied the little "hungry" I was feeling~

Today I'm reading more of the blog I posted yesterday; it's so cool to see other people's weight loss photos, read about their very similar battles and successes, and to be encouraged knowing I'm not alone in this.  Each time I read the emails I get from Prevention, or Fitness magazines, I'm educated and encouraged.  Now to put that information to good use!  Get a plan for the day's eating, plan my exercise for the day and set a goal for the day!  So, here's todays eating plan:

AM:  Coffee & yogurt w/ 1T granola
Snack: Handful natural almonds & 6oz V8
Lunch:  Veggie Burger w/ cheese, salsa & a little sourcream/apple
Snack:  Celery & Carrot sticks w/ hummus
Dinner:  Grilled Chicken Salad/Brown rice/SF fudgesicle
Snack:  Single serving 100 calorie popcorn w/ 2T peanuts

Exercise:  Zumba class at 6:45pm OR Cardio Warm-up & Weights at the gym
Goal for the Day:  Follow the plan!!

Me at my heaviest in 2008
Gotta hop off here now~ will check in later and post how my day went!  Hope yours is filled with success and encouragement!  :)

12:38pm  Afternoon client rescheduled so I'm home this afternoon; here's a link to Prevention's 400 Calorie Meals.   http://www.prevention.com/400caloriepasta/12.html  The meals look so delicious and I love the idea of being able to eat all foods, but with portion control.  I'm going to make up a menu for the rest of the week based upon the 400 calorie meals, make a shopping list and see how that goes!  I'm not really into counting calories (or anything for that matter!) but by following the meal plan they provide, I won't have to really be counting everything, just make the food and enjoy!

PS  The veggie burger topped w/ cheddar, salsa & sourcream was delicious but added a few crumbled tortilla chips for crunch.  Very satisfying.  The apple nicely completed my meal and should hold me till about 3pm or so when I'll have my veggies w/ hummus and/or peanut butter!  And my afternoon cup of coffee!

Daily Dose 6

Monday: 230 pounds :(

It was a good weekend, except for the eating part!  I made Beef Stroganof from scratch which is one of my all-time favorite meals.  Made whole-wheat egg noodles with it, but I still ate more than I should have.  On Sunday afternoon we went to Costco where Kyle extravagantly bought TWO big jugs of Chocolate Raisins, a box of Oreos and two huge bags of frozen fruit.  Naturally the chocolate raisins were opened asap, and naturally I dipped into them!  Later in the evening he opened the Oreos and I (naturally) dipped into those too!  :{  SIGH.  Thankfully, they all went back to Poultney with him!

But that wasn't the end of it.  Having the taste of chocolate in my mouth, I went to work and dipped into the bowl of Hershey's Mini's my client leaves out for everyone!  And although I'm kicking myself for lack of self-control, I actually am kinda burnt out on chocolate now!!  It reminds me of something I read somewhere: a good way to "cure" yourself of specific food temptations is to eat only that food for 24 hours, every meal, every snack...you'll be so sick of it that you won't want it for a good long time!  Makes sense, sorta!  :}

9pm  Just got home from chorus rehearsal; it's so fun and relaxing!  Singing beautiful choral music makes me happy!  Now I'm in for the night and feeling slightly "peckish" as I haven't eaten since about 4pm when I had a Lean Cuisine for dinner~ but I don't really feel like eating, so won't.  Maybe the scales will show a loss tomorrow!  That'd be an encouragement~ although after all the chocolate, I don't know....we'll see.  In the meantime, here's a link:  http://www.prevention.com/quickandeasy/index.html  Recipes for delicious and healthy meals~  yummo!

Daily Dose 5 (continued)

Becca & I this summer

Kyle & I in the spring

Caty & I in the spring

Me & Mom this summer

Erin & I a few years ago
Just want to add a few more links: I'm perusing the blogging world and will share some of them with you here.  This one I like just for the awesome clothing & the beautiful page!  http://elsita.typepad.com/thehiddenseed/  I like the blogs with lots of pretty stuff, photos, etc.  Not tons of words on a page; or at least the ones who break up their words into paragraphs.  SHort ones.  Does it sound like I have an attention span problem?  :)

I also just ordered some inspirational "fat to thin" books from Amazon.com.  they're "Hungry:Lessons Learned On the Journey From Fat To Thin" by Allan Zadoff, "Passing For Thin: Losing Half My Weight and Finding Myself" by Frances Kuffel, "Angry Fat Girls: 5 Women, 500 Pounds and Losing It...Again" by Frances Kuffel and lastly "Confessions Of A Carb Queen: A Memoir" by Susan Blech.  Can't wait to read them!

Daily Dose 5

Ahhhh.......Saturday, and looks like it'll be a beautiful one!  A good day to hang out my wash!  :)  I'm such a home-body!  Thinking of going apple-picking although that would mean making apple pie or apple crisp.  Hmmmm...I would definitely want to eat those.   Maybe I'll make baked apples for myself!  That would be far fewer carbs and calories~ we'll see.

Scales this morning said 230.  Sigh. What happened to my typical first-week loss of 6-7 pounds?  That was always such a shot in the arm~ but it also only happens when I'm doing a fairly "strict" Atkins-ish regimen, ie: very few carbs to give me a good jumpstart on losing.  This time I'm just cutting back, not restricting myself of fruit, or dark chocolate (just a bit) and stuff like that.  Trying to be "real" without being TOO real!

Night-time eating is probably my biggest downfall; it's such an ingrained habit, and even though I may be stuffed from dinner, within a few hours I just wanna nosh...and usually do!  But when I finally got off the computer last night, and sat down on the couch to watch TV, it was about 9pm.  An hour later I was feeling "snackish" so very wisely popped up one of my 100 calorie single-serve popcorns and added 3T peanuts to it.  Swigged water with it and it was satisfying.

Coffee w/ half & half & Sweet N Low this morning, and now my yogurt, and 2 boiled eggs.  Think I'll go to the gym and get the metabolism cranking!  And plan out my day to make the best use of it!  Here's a fun link: http://www.myallnaturalweightloss.com/category/fashion/  Just found this blog and think I'll enoy reading it!

Have a great day!

Daily Dose 4 (continued)

7:19pm FRIDAY

SIGH!  Here it is, Friday evening and I have nothing fun going on!  :(  Becca's out, Sara's going out and Kyle won't be here till tomorrow evening.  Guess I'll add some stuff to the blog; here's a link to VERY INSPIRING photos on youtube!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrDpEI9FpZ0  Every time I watch this, I just sit and grin, feeling teary-eyed & SOOO happy for these people who have achieved an amazing goal!

On another note, Becca's new diabetes mentor, Dana, burned two CD's of assorted vocal music for her, and I had the privilege of listening to them first!  All I can say is, WOW!!  First were several songs by Kate Bush (eh), then Joan Osbourne whose voice and music I LOVE!!  Now I'm listening to Leela James...very nice!  Can't wait to hear the rest of the CD's and add some variety to my listening choices!  THANKS, Dana!!  :) Here's a link to the first Joan Osbourne song which had me "dancing" in my seat as I drove home this evening!!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XozHOwMx3eM  Wowza!!  :D

Just got off the phone with a friend whom I haven't talked to in quite a while and it was so encouraging to chat with her!  She was valiently chugging away on her stationary bike at home, as she also is trying to lose weight.  You go,girl!!  :D  Here's a link she told me about; it's a free website that allows you to create foodlists, calories, carbs, etc. in order to track your eating.  http://www.fatsecret.com/  Looks like a really great tool and resource!  Thanks for sharing it, Sue!  :)

Okay, I'm offa here!  Not sure if I'm gonna go to the mall and do a little window-shopping or just settle on the couch with HGTV....hmmmm....

Daily Dose 4

Aaarrgghh!!  :{  Scales this morning have me UP two pounds!!!  WTH??!!  SOO aggravating when (like I just said the other day) I've eaten successfully and even exercised for an hour TWICE!! ..........SIGH.  Well, guess it balances out my loss of a couple days ago which were a surprise too!  Oh, the vagaries of dieting!!  This is when I remind myself of all the good things I'm doing for myself:
  • eating healthy foods
  • exercising
  • drinking lots more water
  • sharing the journey for accountability
  • setting a better example to my girls
  • striving to attain a goal
  • listing on paper what I eat each day so I don't "forget"

I have a two-hour client with a bathroom I can't wait to tackle, then I'm heading directly to the gym for an hour of cardio.  Then I need to plan what I'm eating this evening; Friday nights/weekends are typically a dangerous time for my dieting intentions...a movie night complete with junky snacks, late-night eating, and little sleep can wipe out the weeks progress!  I also tend to cook more on weekends, have more time to hang out & thus, eat more...  :(  So.  I'll hop on here later with my "plan" for the evening, add some cool links and hope someone will comment on the blog!  Above is last nights delicious salad and homemade chicken soup!  SOO good!

Daily Dose 3 (continued)

http://www.fitnessmagazine.com/recipes/snacks/low-calorie/healthy-homemade-snacks-under-100-calories/?esrc=nwffood

Back from a solid hour at the gym; feels great!  Checking email and my weekly fitnessmagazine email was in.  This is another great resource for information and encouragement to me!  Check it out!

6:57pm   Thursday evening

Checked out a Zumba class at The Edge~ wow.  Very different from the other two I've been to in the past.  This teacher added lots of ballet flavor to it but it was a combination of many dance styles; I SOOO wish I could do it and enjoy it more.  But I guess practice makes perfect~ wonder what the next class will be like?

Daily Dose 3

Good morning, blog!  Can you believe I've already "cheated" on my "diet" and have already considered not blogging??  Wow.  What a...well, I'm not gonna call myself names or beat myself up.  But here's what happened.  I did great yesterday with eating until after dinner.  I had a burger w/ cheese on a "thin bread" thingie, more veggie sticks w/ hummus and then promptly went to the freezer and grabbed a Klondike bar (Crunchy!).  I could have chosen one of my delicious chocolate-y Sugar Free Fudgesicles, but NO!!  A Klondike bar!  Ate it on my bed where I'd been reading, then!!!  Went downstairs and got ANOTHER one!!!  :O  What happened to my self-control?  My will to succeed?  Where'd my brain go???  Aaaarrgghh!!....it's like my brain checked out and I stopped thinking...just ATE!  :{

Well, then I went to the gym @ 7pm to meet Erin; only spent 15 minutes on the elliptical and then 15 minutes on the bike.  Not the 45 min I intended but better than nothing.  Is it just an excuse that "I'm just starting out again, so 30 minutes is fine."??  Well....hmmmm....don't answer that.

So, I get up this morning, hop on the scales thinking "Okay, Sharon, you diet-idiot!  You probably just gained back the 2 whole pounds you've lost since Monday." but!!!  Amazingly, (go figure) the scale showed another pound down!  I remember things like that happening in my former "dieting" days.  I'm sure there's a practical explanation for it, but I take it as a gift!  I didn't deserve to lose another pound but I'm thankful.  And determined (for the time being anyway) to keep on going.  Hopefully as more of you read this, and respond, it'll encourage me to feel accountable and want to be a good example to you!!  Or something like that!!  :)

So, coffee's almost gone, gotta grab a Light & Fit yogurt (I think I'll have Strawberry Banana) and run Becca to school for an early meeting.  Ta Ta!

That's me and Sara earlier this year... I think.  Hmmmm....

It's now 8:36am.  I'm headed to the gym to work out on the weight machines after doing 15 minutes of warm-up on the treadmill or elliptical at http://www.planetfitness.com/  What a great place this is!  I now have a membership to The Sports & Fitness Edge (http://www.sfedge.com/) but havent' explored it yet.  I'd really like to try out some of the group exercise classes, swim at least once a week, and check out the workout room.  But in the meantime, Planet Fitness is familiar and comfortable, so today I'll go there.  Maybe hit The Edge later today; there are two Zumba classes to choose from.  We'll see what happens.

Daily Dose 2 (continued)

12:15pm Wednesday, September 22, 2010

All this morning I kept thinking of cool things to put on this blog~ I'd like to share links that have been a help and inspiration to me in the past.  One of them is this one:  http://www.prevention.com/  I get several emails a week with great articles, awesome lists of healthy foods, good exercises, diet do's and don'ts, and much more.  I've incorporated many of these into my weight-loss "program".  Which leads me to clarify: I'm not a "program" kinda person.  My life is too fragmented and hectic to spend lots of time counting, weighing, measuring, documenting, etc.  Two years ago, Sylvia & I came up with a great plan for losing weight that suited us and our lifestyles perfectly.  Enough rigidity to get the job done, but with lots of room for realistic life stuff, and plenty of laughing at ourselves and enjoying the ride!  :)   Here's what we came up with:
  • Carb awareness but not counting carbs
  • Exercised @ least 5X weekly (we joined Planet Fitness, a WONDERFUL deal)
  • Recorded weekly weight loss (altho' I weighed daily)
  • Rewards for weight loss (ultimate reward was our trip to FL)
  •  Created a blog called 2fatchicksonadiet
  • Opened a savings account & both contributed a weekly amount to pay for our FLORIDA trip
  • Weighed and measured monthly to record progress (highly motivating!)
  • Drank lots of water
  • Allowed ourselves our half & half in our coffee, with no restrictions.
  • Allowed ourselves days (weekends) off occasionally (and forgave ourselves when we took those w/out planning them!)
  • Allowed ourselves to eat chocolate when we wanted to!  (Actually, we decided it was more productive to give ourselves permission to eat "bad" stuff occasionally so as not to experience deprivation syndrome.  Most of the time this was successful.  I admit many weeks we had to work back off a weekend gain.  Here we are about a month into it~

Daily Dose 2

I realized that I hadn't written down my starting weight; I do feel hesitant about putting it out there!  :(  It's so....MUCH!!  But the purpose of this blog is to be real and honest and to allow others to help me be accountable; first let me give the numbers from my weight-loss of two years ago. I started then at a whopping 266#, the most I've ever weighed.  Over the course of ten months, I dropped 75# which put me at an awesome-feeling 191.  I know 191 pounds sounds like a LOT to some of you, but I went from a size 24 to a size 12.  That was AMAZING!!  Above is me at 266# in July 2008.  WOW!!!

So,  the other day when I began my journey again, I weighed....gulp!  231 pounds!  There!  I said it!  Today I weigh 230. I know they say to only weigh once a week, but I found that by weighing every day, I feel more in control and of course, a loss gives me gumption to carry on!!  Conversely, a gain is discouraging (makes me mad, actually, esp. if I've done well w/ eating/exercise, etc.)  But then I remind myself of all the good and positive things I've done and count success that way too.  But a lower number on the scales make me happiest!  Below is me at a happy 191 pounds!  :)  WOW!!

Still figuring out the formatting of a blog, how to add pics, what the heck widgets and gadgets are, how to get followers, etc.  So bear with me.  I'll figure it out eventually and make this page more interesting!  Now it's off to work.  I have one client this AM, then bring Becca to an appointment during which I'll run to the gym and get in a 45 minute workout on the weight machines!  TTYL!  :)

Daily Dose 1

Well, here we go, folks!  Another diet blog, another weight-loss journal...another fat person freaking out at the pounds and the lethargy, another "Diva In Disguise"!  I decided it'd be fun to write and share my "daily dose of diet" with whoever is interested to hear about it!  Above is a recent picture; I'd just tried coloring my hair light brown.  Decided I didn't like it, so I'm a highlighted blonde again.

Starting yesterday, September 20, 2010, I once again decided to attempt to get my over-eating and lack of exercise under control again.  On a positive note, I've done it before (lost 75# from July 08 till May 09) so I know I can!  It was awesome to have a practical & realistic plan of loosely managing carbs, getting active physically by joining a gym and buying a bike, and of course, wouldn't have started it and couldn't have done it without the help, inspiration and encouragement of my "diet" partner, Sylvia~  we were "2fatchicksonadiet" and had a blast on the journey!

Negatively, because I did it before, I'm having a really hard time getting my "snap" back and keeping it!  My mind and body have fallen into lethargy and while I've been horrified at the gradual gaining of 40 pounds in the past year, and have made many attempts to rein it back in, I just haven't been able to achieve that mindset and motivation I had in 2008.  So it sometimes just seems hopeless.

I do amaze myself at how many times I get back on the horse in this dieting rodeo!!  I haven't given up on it yet and although I know yo-yo dieting is really bad for the body, I figure it's better to do that, than stop trying completely!

So here I go again!  :)  Thanks for reading!  Hope this will all be a help to you somehow too!
